 The prestressed plastic corrugated pipe was made of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) or PP (Polypropylene),its corrosion performance is far superior to the metal and galvanized one, which could effectively protect the tendons from corrosion.

Many prestressed structures have to withstand a serious impact of the external condition, such as de-icing salt or brine. When the post-tensioned components are obstructed or losing efficacy due to the collapse of waterproof layer, micro-cracks leaking and drainage facilities, the tendon will be subject to corrosion.

The chapters of Grouting of prestressing tendons in the FIP Construction Guide (1990) pointed out that the metal duct is not permanent anticorrosive enough to resist the leakage of water and reach the grouting slurry as well as the prestressed tendons. However the prestressed plastic duct could provide a far superior protective effect than the metal duct, to prevent the pollution of harmful substances through the pipeline, thus ensuring the post-tensioned structure has much better durability, The HDPE corrugated pipe as a new designed materials was widely used in the domestic and abroad, which was with the advantage of light weight, high pressure, good toughness, fast construction and reliably connection characteristics. Therefore the HDPE pipe replaced the concrete and castng iron pipe widely.
